How to group sprinkler service calls by neighborhood

Updated 2026-10-08

Short answer: pick an anchor address, draw a radius around it, assign that circle a day, and only book properties inside it on that day. Drive time is the cost you control most, and fixed neighborhood days cut it more reliably than asking dispatch to find clusters each morning.

The method

  1. Find the clusters. Put your customer addresses on a map (a free map tool or a printout works) and mark where they bunch.
  2. Choose an anchor and a radius. Choose a radius so one crew can finish a day's stops inside it. A smaller radius means less driving but longer waits for outliers.
  3. Assign a day to each circle. Put the dates on the calendar for the season, the way a bus route has a schedule.
  4. Add the rule. A property outside the circle cannot be booked for that day. Offer its own day instead. Without a hard rule, exceptions pile up until the circles mean nothing.
  5. Cap each day. Set stops per window (see how to stop overbooking arrival windows).
  6. Order the stops. Within the day, work outward or around, not back and forth, and check the drive time between consecutive stops against each stop's window.

The trade-off to decide on purpose

The tighter the circles, the less you drive and the longer a customer on the edge waits for a date. Decide the longest wait you will accept for a standard visit and tell customers the day at booking. Emergency leaks are the exception and should not live inside the circles.

The faster way, honestly scoped

Sprinklerly models this directly: a service area is a circle (center and radius, drawn on an interactive map or centered by typing an address) with a date, arrival windows and a capacity per window. A property can only be booked if it falls inside the radius. A dispatcher can then reorder the day's stops manually and see real drive distance and time between legs, with warnings for overlapping windows, a leg with too little travel buffer and a stop outside the day's configured hours (route planning is on the Growing Crews plan). It does not choose the stop order for you. Sprinklerly is free during early access for contractors who sign up by December 31, 2026 (no credit card). Planned prices at general availability are $79, $149 and $249 per month, locked in for early-access accounts.

Common questions

How do you batch sprinkler jobs by location?

Assign each neighborhood circle a fixed day, book only properties inside it that day, and cap the stops per window.

Does Sprinklerly optimize routes automatically?

No. A dispatcher reorders stops manually and sees drive times; Sprinklerly warns about overlaps and tight legs.
